Bernard Park Wins “K-Pop Star” Season 3

by on / updated

Kollaboration Atlanta Alum Bernard Park was recently named the winner of the third season of Korea’s K-Pop Star, a survival style singing reality show that has found immense popularity both in Korea and internationally.

In winning the competition, Park won 300 million won (the approximate equivalent of $288,900), two new luxury vehicles, and a debut with one of three Korean entertainment agencies – YG, JYP, or Antenna MusicPark has chosen to sign with JYP, which is considered one of the top entertainment agencies in South Korea.  The label has a great track record of producing very successful and popular artists such as Wonder Girls and 2PM.  Park said he chose JYP because he feels that its producer, Jin Young Park, will be “able to teach [him] the best.”

The 21-year old Korean-American found victory in the final episode with his performance of two ballads.  His rendition of Yoo Jae Ha’s 1987 hit “Because I Love You,” and R. Kelly’s signature “I Believe I Can Fly” impressed both the judges and the audience.  At first, however, it seemed that Park would fall short of his competitor, fellow Korean-American Sam Kim, as he was four points behind in the judges’ score.  K-Pop Star works on a point system with each competitor gaining points from both the judges and the public.  Therefore, understandably so, Park became visibly tense when it initially appeared as if he might lose.  Park, however, managed to pull ahead in the public vote, earning him the final, decisive victory.

Bernard Park was previously seen in Kollaboration’s own Kollaboration Atlanta 5 show in 2012 where he, along with piano accompaniment from Rudi Han, awed the audience with their performance of Eric Benet’s “The Last Time.”

Since then, he has become an even more skilled vocalist and Kollaboration is proud to have helped discover such an amazing talent.  We here at Kollaboration family look forward to seeing what his dazzling talent will produce in the future. We’re certain he has an illustrious career ahead of him at JYP.  For now, we’d just like to say:

CONGRATULATIONS BERNARD!
